The Glenorchy Football Clubs Academy program begun in 2007 aimed at assisting young players at the club with “Senior Potential” to progress through the ranks in the hope of playing senior football with the Magpies or progressing to the states talent pathway. This program was the first of its kind to be run in Tasmania and has now seen many clubs follow suit.

To date the clubs program has seen around 40 participants take part and experience all aspects of Football including:

  • Skill Development
  • Physical preparation
  • Fitness
  • AFL Draft testing
  • Rehabilitation/ Recovery
  • Performance Analysis
  • Nutrition

In 2009 the program received a significant boost receiving a cheque as a result of former Glenorchy player Aaron Joseph gaining a NAB Rising Star nomination during the 2009 AFL Season. This money will be used to purchase Guernseys for the participants and help to support costs of running the program. As acknowledgment of Aaron’s fantastic efforts the program will now be known as the AARON JOSPEH FOOTBALL ACADEMY.

The program is delivered by a specific coach from the club however also involves several guest coaches including AFL Tasmania development staff, Glenorchy senior players, and former Glenorchy players playing in the AFL.
