The TSL Talent Identification Series was introduced in 2009 to coincide with the introduction of the Tasmanian State League. A regional series is run in the South, North, and North West of the state involving teams based in that region.
It is aimed at the under 14’s and under 15’s age groups and is a chance for players to represent the club based in the zone they reside in.
In 2009 Glenorchy provided around 70 under 14 and 15 players residing in the Glenorchy Development zone with the opportunity to take part in the series. The squad based its training in the 3 major areas of the Glenorchy zone KGV Oval, Glenorchy, Boyer Oval, New Norfolk, and Abbotsfield Park, Claremont.
Weather permitting each side plays 4 games under the watchful eye of AFL Tasmania recruiting staff. It is an opportunity for the participants to experience the pressure and match intensity of representative Football.
AFL Tasmania state selectors pick around 50 of the best players from the matches to represent their region in a representative match. Players who perform well and show potential will then have the chance to be selected for Tasmania’s representative squad or AFL Tasmania Development Squads.
Glenorchy provides the best training, facilities, and coaching to ensure that players representing our squads are provided with the best opportunity and experience to progress through to state representation and hopefully one day fulfilling the dream of playing AFL Football.
As a added bonus Glenorchy provide its under 15’s development squad with the opportunity to play a match against the North Launceston Football Club annually for the “Coffee Club Challenge Cup” this match is a fantastic experience for the boys and provides a extra opportunity for them to experience representative football and provides an enjoyable experience for the participants.
