Round 2: vs New Norfolk
Venue: Boyer
Conditions: Fine

Despite a number of senior players leaving New Norfolk during the pre season we knew they would be a tough opposition at home. We approached the game with a strong desire to improve on the previous week's loss to Clarence. We had a point to prove from this result and to kick start our season with a win away from KGV.

There were five changes to the team from the previous week. Matthew Smith and James Armstrong were given 1 week suspensions. Matthew Dillon (knee) and Jesse Crouch (back) could not be considered and Jaryd Collidge made way for Nathan Street who was a late inclusion into the team. Other inclusions were Chris Glenn, Nathan Matthews, Josh Hall and Thomas O'Halloran. Josh is a tall utility player has joined the club from New Norfolk. Thomas played for the University football club last season having moved there from Ulverstone. This further strengthens our ties with the North West.

We again played well in the first quarter with players showing great intensity to win the ball and then moving it quickly through the lines. Unfortunately the aspect of game which let us down not only during the first quarter, but the entire game was our disposal to our forwards. Turnovers allowed New Norfolk to rebound with ease and we had to work hard to regain possession again. Fortunately our fitness levels allowed us to maintain the intensity from the first to the last quarters and win by 34 points.

Nathan Street showed his class with great poise and technical ability to repetitively kick the ball to team mates in traffic. Mark Corbett had another good game and also possesses good technical ability and decision making. The performance of our tall forwards Damian McIver and Simon Spencer can not go unmentioned. Their work rate was fantastic and they both took several marks both on the lead and in packs. Chris Glenn was a great forward option as he kicked 3 goals and assisted several others. Jaye Bowden did a good job in shutting Bowring out of the game and rebounding from defence on numerous occasions. Sam Chivers worked hard in the ruck and Thomas O'Halloran won the ball in contested situations.

Final Score
Glenorchy 13-12-90
New Norfolk 7-14-56

This week we play the improved Lauderdale at KGV. Jaye Bowden, Aaron Joseph and Bryce O'Garey, Sam Cornish and Matt Dillon have Mariner duties. However, Smith and Armstrong return from suspension and the door is open for other players to push for senior selection. We still have a lot of improvement to make but we are heading in the right direction.

I hope you to see you at footy.
