Round 5: vs Kingborough
Venue: Kingborough
Conditions: Fine and windy

The round five fixture against Kingborough saw a vastly different squad than the one that defeated Hobart the previous week. Jaye Bowden, Dave Hunt and Simon Spencer were injured, Aaron Cornelius and Aaron Joseph had Mariner commitments and Thomas O'Halloran returned to the reserves. Into the side came Mark Corbett for his 100th game, Daniel Fewkes, Richie Robinson for his first senior game at the club, Nathan Street, Ben Careless and Trent Bartlett. Trent was a late inclusion and has signed with the club with the aim of returning to the VFL in the near future.

Trent started extremely well with his strong leading and marking a feature of the first quarter. With Corbett in his 100th game, Foale, Smith, Matthews, Street controlling the midfield there were numerous opportunities for our forwards to capitalise. Sam Chivers demonstrated his improved confidence and is developing with each game. The defensive group of Curran, Kean, Moles, Careless, Kamaric and Robinson were calm under pressure and rebounded each Kingston forward entry. Unfortunately we wasted many opportunites with inaccurate kicking for goal. However, a six goal start was still a good result.

Kingborough adopted the tactic of playing two loose players in their defensive half to limit our forwards space. We didn't adapt to this tactic in the second term and wasted many forward entries. A resulting three goal quarter was not reflective of our dominance of the game and was a disappointing result going into half time.

We were keen to improve our performance in the second half with an increase in our work rate and smarter ball use. Ben Careless, Chris Glenn and Damian McIver were impressive kicking multiple goals for the half. The nine goal final quarter was a very satisfying way to end the game. It was another good team performance with many players having high-quality games.

Glenorchy 25.14-164

This week we are back home against North Hobart who have been touted as the premiership team. They have recruited well and have had impressive performances to date. It promises to be a good game as we are now playing consistent football and are keen to maintain our momentum.
