Round 11: vs Hobart
Venue: KGV
Conditions: Fine
Every week is a test in football and at this time of the year the test is to have enough players to fill the teams! On the weekend we had several players unavailable for senior/reserve selection for a variety of reasons. Whilst this is not an ideal situation, it presented a great opportunity for several players who have been performing consistently in the reserves and Under 19's to step up to the next level. We see this as a great learning curve for the players and assist their development in becoming regular senior players.
In previous weeks I have mentioned the names of Harwood and Cox performing well at Under 19 level. Now I am pleased to report that they both performed well at senior and reserve level. Ryan Harwood played very well in the reserves with his ball winning ability, kicking skills and high work ethic on display. Ryan is in the Tasmanian Under 16 team and I'm sure he will perform well. Jake Cox has been in the top 3 players consistently in the Under 19's and on the weekend justified his senior selection with a great debut. These two players along with several other exciting prospects in the Under 17's and Under 19's ensure the future of the club is looking bright.
Unfortunately the reserves were over run on the weekend after a very good first half. The younger players combined well with the experienced players such as Keeley, Lamont and Erends. Justin Brown continued his good form and Josh King is also playing very well. It was a good team effort and although beaten Ben and I are pleased with the development of the group.
In the seniors we played very well and did not let Hobart into the contest. From the first bounce we attacked the ball with players such as Smith, Corbett and Puiselli leading the way. We continually drove the ball forward to our tall targets and they responded by taking some very good marks. McIver, Spencer and Hunt are all good leading players and finished off their team mates good work by converting on most occasions. At ground level, Foale, Kean and French had good games each contributing 3 goals.
Our defence has been excellent all season and with Curran, Sweeney, O'Halloran, Dillon Cornish and Kamaric playing well we again managed to repel the majority of Hobart's attacks. Sam Chivers was again very good in the ruck and showed he is also valuable at ground level. He won many contests and followed up winning the ball at ground level.
In another impressive four quarter performance we were able to run out convincing 90 point winners. It was a pleasing result and reflected the amount of talent we have at KGV.

This week we take on Kingborough, at KGV, who will be confident after their good win against Brighton. They are also improving each game and we will be aiming to continue our good form. There is still room for lots of improvement and we need to ensure that the standard we set is maintained and improved upon each time we play.
