Round 16: vs New Norfolk
Venue: Boyer
Conditions: Rain patches and slippery
The game against New Norfolk was an important clash because top position on the ladder has not yet been decided. Securing the double chance is important going into the finals and therefore we needed to win to remain in the race for top position. Unfortunately Dave Kamaric was unable to play due to injury and Nathan Street was a late withdrawal due to soreness. Richard Robinson was the unlucky player to make way for the return of Jaye Bowden and Chris Glenn.
Coming off a good win against Clarence the team was confident of performing well. We started in a good manner getting on top of New Norfolk at the stoppages and taking the ball inside 50m on several occasions. Unfortunately we didn't make the most of our entries kicking 3 goals and 6 behinds. Our defenders were fantastic all day and held New Norfolk goalless in the first quarter. David O'Garey, Brad Curran and co. continually rebounded the ball from defence and set-up many forward thrusts.
New Norfolk came out attacking in the second quarter and threw everything at us. We withheld their attacks and eventually got on top to win the quarter by 16 points. Fortunately this trend continued in the second half and we were able to finish off the game strongly. This was important as the previous week we let ourselves down by relaxing in the last quarter.
The pleasing aspect of the result was the evenness of the team's performance. Some players to have good games included Shane Piuselli, David O'Garey, James Armstrong, Chris Glenn (4 goals) and Dave Hunt (5 goals). To win by 75 points at Boyer was a good solid result for the club. It continued on from the impressive wins by the under 19's and reserves earlier in the day. This is an exciting period for the club as we enter the final stages of the season and there are several players returning to the squads, strengthening the club's position. With only two home and away games remaining it is pleasing to finally have the majority of players available.
Final Score
Glenorchy: 17.22.124
New Norfolk: 6.13.49
This weekend we return to KGV to play Lauderdale.
I hope to see you there.
