Glenorchy opens the new Statewide League season with a blockbuster clash against Launceston on April 4 and Reid's first goal is to put behind weeks of unrest to again focus on on-field success.
The 32-year-old life member of the club has a perfect three-from-three record after taking the reserves side to the past three SFL premierships, he has also been an assistant to the senior side, first under David Newett and then Bowden.
``It is difficult this close to the season, but I haven't closed the door on adding players to this group,'' Reid said yesterday.
``We have lost some good, experienced players but we do have great depth at the club which is something we have had for a number of years.
``There are a number of kids ready to step up into senior footy that can do the job.''
Despite the circumstances relating to Reid falling into the role, the 260-game veteran -- the third highest total games tally at the club -- can't wait to sink his teeth into the coaching position.
``I'm excited, the circumstances surrounding the appointment aren't ideal and probably never the way you want to stumble into a job.
``But I'm pleased and excited and looking forward to the remainder of the year and getting down to footy business now.
``I don't think I'm any better equipped than anyone else, but because I've been part of the group in a playing and coaching capacity for a while, I know them all very well.''
The appointment will also see Reid hang up his playing boots. Source: |
